We all know that eco-friendly, "green" decorating is smart, but as the comments show, there's a balance to be found even within a great practice.

As consumers, myself included, we need to learn more about what we are buying and how it impacts our environment and our economy.

A sofa is not just a sofa anymore!April Force Pardoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06769621068096910220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4973728617740944648.post-90319480891266788082009-10-07T12:12:00.667-07:002009-10-07T12:12:00.667-07:00I am all for green decorating!!!

Cass, while I share your concern about jobs, we all know that the manufacture of most household items largely supports only the job market in China... and supporting low paid retail jobs in the States. Transporting these items from China thousands of miles to our stores and homes further adds to our carbon footprint.
My hope is that by insisting on reusing useful items and making conscious purchases of new, locally and sustainably produced home goods, we can offset any loss of jobs with the creation of new ones. While Eutopian ideals may not be realistic, it can't hurt to try. Thanks again for sharing.... I believe anyone does have the right to purchase new, but an equal responsibility to take their old, and make sure it goes on for a new life with someone else.
CassCass @ That Old Househttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12173199705431319322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4973728617740944648.post-18598336515039010972009-10-07T10:04:32.784-07:002009-10-07T10:04:32.784-07:00Hi Jeff, as one of the "choir members" I totally a...Hi Jeff, as one of the "choir members" I totally agree.
